Bordnetz Congress, Germany

Landshut, Germany

The Wiring Systems Congress is aimed at all developers and technical experts along the entire automotive value chain. Friedrich Talgner (Division Manager Technical Applications) and Robert Ziebart (Sales Manager, Technical Services) will give a presentation at 13.30 on the following topic:

Reliable charging connectors - silver alloys and their properties for automotive and high-voltage connectors

The lecture will address the megatrend of electrification in the automotive sector and present silver alloys and their attractive properties as functional coatings for the requirements of e-mobility and high-power applications.

The aim of the lecture is to present the current state of the art in the connector and supplier industry on available silver alloys, silver coatings and their material properties. Characteristics such as hardness, contact resistance and tribological properties can be maintained over the long term even at elevated temperatures. Additional requirements such as end-of-life for automotive applications will be considered as examples.

For example, coatings made from innovative silver dispersion electrolytes show similarly good electrical properties to a pure silver coating, but a drastically reduced coefficient of friction and much improved wear resistance. This results in significantly improved mechanical and also electrical reliability of the charging connector.

In passing, the electroplating aspects, such as barrel, rack and strip coating of contact parts are discussed.

In summary, the current silver coatings and their properties open up possibilities to cover the requirements of existing and also future connectors, especially for high performance applications in e-mobility.
