RHODUNA® 470 Black: New Black Rhodium introduced at JGF in Freiburg
The new black rhodium electrolyte from Umicore attracted huge interest at the Jewellery & Gem Fair in Freiburg. The new product RHODUNA® 470 Black will soon be available for selected customers. The electrolyte deposits deep black rhodium layers with an L value of 40 in the CIE L*a*b colour space. The L shade between 0 (= black) and 100 (= white) indicates the degree of blackness. Grey tones have an L value of 65. This corresponds to a dark anthracite. Common commercially available electrolytes reach on the CIE L*a*b scale an L colour value of only about 55 to 60.
In addition, the new electrolyte can deposit for the first time thick, crack-free layers up to 0.5 micrometer. The product is perfectly suited for those applications, where Black Ruthenium cannot fulfill the requested abrasion resistance.
Umicore will present plated samples at the O & S fair in Stuttgart (May 31-June 2) in Hall 9, Stand B28 / 42. In addition, Umicore Electroplating experts advise on a wide range of other electrolytes, both for decorative and functional applications and for anodes.
